BBQ Chicken (in a crock pot)

This is from my hairdresser and friend Katherine McCleery. We love it.

  • 4 lbs chicken breasts
  • 1 TB canola oil
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 12 ounce bottle of chili sauce
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 2 TB Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp salt and pepper (each)
  • 1/2 Tabasco sauce (I leave this out)
  • 1/2 tsp liquid smoke (the recipe says this is optional but I consider it a must-have)

Combine ingredients together in a 4 quart slow cooker. Add chicken and stir to coat. Cook on high 4-5 hours or low 7-8 hours. Remove chicken and break apart. Stir back into sauce. Serve on Kaiser rolls (about a dozen).
